Tip for adding headlights in GIMP,

When using the supernova, reduce the number of spokes, you'll get a more realistic look.

Or instead of using the supernova effect, use the dodge/burn tool on the dodge setting to brighten the headlights, and then use a soft white brush on low opacity to create the glow of the headlights.

I used the second technique in this picture.

Or if you have photoshop (ive never used gimp) try a very soft brush but quite a big size.

make one layer the light itself so just a white circle in the middle of the lamp
(turn down the opacity if needed)

then make another layer and turn the layer style to soft light

dab a little on the front of the car and to the ground infront as an alternative

i used the basic principle on this picture, the water mark is my ig page

Yeah it's the exact same method, however using the dodge tool in GIMP preserves some of the texture from the lamp/bulb so it looks like actual lit bulbs behind glass rather than a blob of light.
